The service
KotobaPlay is a Windows learning companion that works with a supported Stremio desktop player. It adds interactive Japanese subtitle tools, dictionary information, pronunciation, study features, and practice activities. KotobaPlay does not provide or sell video, streams, subtitle files, or rights to media.
You are responsible for using video and subtitles you are permitted to access, and for following the terms of any connected service.
Accounts and the 3-day free trial
An email address is required to receive a six-digit sign-in code. The first successful email verification for your first account starts one 72-hour free trial. The trial does not reset when you sign in again or reinstall the app.
The trial is separate from paid billing. It does not automatically create a subscription or charge a payment method. After the trial ends, an active subscription is required to use the app.
Subscriptions
When checkout is activated, KotobaPlay will offer $3 USD per month, $7.50 USD every three months, or $25 USD per year. A subscription starts only after you choose a plan and deliberately complete Stripe Checkout. It then renews at the selected interval until cancelled.
The app requires periodic internet access to verify trial or subscription status. A completed checkout does not unlock the app until the subscription service confirms active paid access.
Cancellation will be available through the Stripe customer billing portal opened from KotobaPlay. A cancellation scheduled for the end of a paid period keeps access active through that period. Details are on the billing and cancellation page.
Payments and refunds
Stripe processes payments. The checkout page will show the charge, currency, and billing interval before purchase. Your bank or payment provider may apply its own conversion or other fees.
Refund terms will be published before checkout is activated. If you believe a future charge is incorrect, contact support promptly. Any rights available under applicable consumer law remain unaffected.
Acceptable use
You may use KotobaPlay for personal language learning. You may not misuse the account or billing service, attempt to bypass access controls, interfere with service operation, probe other users’ information, or use the service unlawfully.
The app, website, branding, and original materials remain protected by their applicable rights. Third-party dictionaries, libraries, Stremio, Stripe, voice services, and optional model components remain subject to their own notices and terms.
Learning accuracy
Dictionary entries, readings, subtitle timing, automated highlighting, translations, pronunciation, and local model explanations may be incomplete or mistaken. They are learning aids and should be checked against trusted sources when accuracy matters.
Availability and changes
KotobaPlay may change as compatibility, security, or learning features improve. Features can fail because of Stremio updates, subtitle formats, internet services, or hardware. Reasonable efforts will be made to keep the service available, but uninterrupted operation is not guaranteed.
Material changes to these terms will be reflected by an updated effective date. Continued use after updated terms take effect indicates acceptance to the extent permitted by applicable law.
Ending use
You can stop using the app and cancel an active subscription through the billing portal once live. Access may be suspended for unpaid status, abuse, security risk, or serious breach of these terms.
